Oh Renly

So you know when your parents say “I hope you have a kid and it’s just like you!”? Well my mom totally said it and jinxed me good!

I really contemplated writing about this but you know what people will judge me no matter what!

On April 3rd 2020 I punched into work at 7:53 am punched out by 7:56 am. In that 3 minute time frame my little man managed to break his arm. He deceided it was a great idea to climb on his big brothers foot board. Well he fell as he fell is arm got caught between the boards and snapped his arm back completely fracturing his upper arm and moving his entire elbow out of place.
I heard him cry it wasn’t a blood curdling scream like you would have excepted in a break that bad. It was muffled a little cry nothing extreme. So I rushed picked him up and carried him in by my husband we noticed his elbow looked bad I could fee the bone extremely close to his skin. At that point all he had was a diaper on so I scrambled and put pants on him wrapped him in his warm blanket he got from his grandma and grandpa in Texas that has his name all over it. I rushed him out of the house and gently strapped him in my older sons car seat as the straps were loose enough. I put a sweater in his diaper bag. I sped to the ER as he was now cry uncontrollably in the back seat while I called my mom bawling.
They checked out temps as we are in the middle of quarantine at this point. Checked us in and wasted no time getting us seen. They brought in doctor and nurses right away to check his arm and did xrays. And they had the radiologist in while xrays were preformed to diagnose it right away. Before xrays they gave him morphine to settle him down a little. I knew right there it was broke. His arm was limp he wouldn’t move it at all. They finished the xrays and told me they had to call a othopedic surgeon at Neenah thedaclark to get next steps. Within 45 minutes of getting there they told me I needed to transport him to Neenah for surgery. Thankfully the morphine was enough to make him sleep all the way down there.
We arrived at Neenah got him checked in and they explained the surgery he needed. They took him back told me it will be a “quick” surgery. I said quick is 5 minutes. This surgery they had to manipulate his elbow back into place and put 3 pins to hold is elbow together. The surgery took 2 hours and due to the pandemic I was alone in the waiting room. It was like a ghost town in there. Surgery was a success and he was ready to go. Still shirtless as I couldn’t move his arm I grabbed the sweater out of the bag and the nurse helped me get him dressed so we could get the splint inside his shirt. Then he got a little sling which he absolutely HATED. They told me they would cast it in a week and told me to come back the following Tuesday as they wanted to get us casted fast as he is 1 and falls over EVERYTHING.
Over the weekend he fell once and screamed otherwise he was very mellow the whole weekend. We took him to get his cast they took the splint off and I bawled so much seeing the pins sticking out of his little arm. I get faint and the nurse noticed that I was upset with how this happened. They told em the xrays looked Amazimg and his arm looks great. He picked out every color possible for his cast and we settled with blue. They put little pillows around his pins to keep them from rubbing the cast. They had me come back in 4 weeks.
Over the 4 week period he learned to beat up Ryker with his cast any time Ryker messed with him. Finally 4 weeks of cast was over or so I thought. They took the cast off and took more xrays fracture was still very much there. But they were able to remove the pins from his arm. The doctor took a needle nose pliers and pulled all 3 pins out while I held Renlys little hand assuring him it was okay. Wishing 5 minutes the pins were out and they were letting him pick out his next cast. Again he choose every color possible. So we settled with orange this time. 2 more weeks to go!
Two weeks flew by man was I excited to have the cast removed finally. He sat so well both times they cut the cast off never moved a muscle. He still has a small residual fracture in his arm but they saw no reason too keep him casted. Only thing was to keep him from falling on the arm to prevent any more damage. I followed him like a hawk or so I thought...5/22/2020 we were getting ready to get food for dinner. Well boys decided to wait for me on the steps even though Renly refused to put pants on. Suddenly I heard loud bangs and he was screaming. Renly must of turned the wrong way and fell down the stairs. I flipped out and of course I was crying he was crying and then Ryker was crying. So Cody packed up Ryker I put pants on renly and ran back out the door.
I took him to the ER for precaution. As it had only been 1 week since cast was removed so better safe than sorry. 2 hours later we were told no break again!!!! Woohoo but he has a cut on his head and we are to watch for and signs of a concussion. He has definitely been a mini me so far! Before we left the doctor came in and asked me if it was icy outside. πŸ˜‚ I said no he goes I have to ask we have 7 people in the ER for falls tonight.

I love my Clumsy baby!
